<br />
I don't have easy access to a computer (in part my fault, I boob-whacked the only one in the house and decimated the haven't-got-enough-money-to-replace hard drive) and it is simply too much of a pain in the butt trying to blog on this platform through a phone.<br />
<br />
So it is Ta-Ra for now from blogspot, and Hello Gorgeous to weebly.<br />

Come and visit me over on:<br />

</div><div>I've been a bit slack and haven't done a post to introduce my partner and share what we swapped. Drastically.<br /><br />After a shaky start (2 projects awaiting supplies, 1 didn't work as anticipated and another seems to use beads that are as hard to find as hen's teeth) I actually have two UFOs well & truly finished.<a name='more'></a><br /><br />UFO number 1; a kit from suddenly-can't-remember-who that resulted in a beautiful lacy bracelet. Kindly modeled by Humphrey the Vicious Killing Dog:<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WBhxJppH5iw/WIWi04KtzaI/AAAAAAAABbc/lRvPBcZ2KIs/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WBhxJppH5iw/WIWi04KtzaI/AAAAAAAABbc/lRvPBcZ2KIs/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='470' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />And UFO number 2; My first attempt at bead embroidery that I started .... 3 years ago? ... at a rather splendid workshop ran by <a target="_blank" href="http://thewhimsicalbead.com.au">The Whimsical Bead</a>. It was intended to be a hair clip but proved too heavy so has found its way onto a hard head band thingummy. This time modeled by Bobby the Stealth Ninja Licky Pup:<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dz0rY3ZZBqE/WIWkEMZZfII/AAAAAAAABbs/KBO7AfnDnbw/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dz0rY3ZZBqE/WIWkEMZZfII/AAAAAAAABbs/KBO7AfnDnbw/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />And finally, a glimpse of Fred the Snake, who has been frogged a billionty-seven times and is currently waiting on beads and inspiration to finish him off:<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zptYIz3aQd0/WIWkFsa9yjI/AAAAAAAABbw/WVeUhfz8ZV0/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zptYIz3aQd0/WIWkFsa9yjI/AAAAAAAABbw/WVeUhfz8ZV0/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Little Fred is a b*gger to photograph, being predominantly black, but he is all squashy and feel-goody in your hand so I shall persevere with him.<br />Nelly Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18439077373278109660noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964858904859843847.post-22998646815053300022017-01-08T11:36:00.001+11:002017-01-08T11:36:56.147+11:00Upon the Demise of Blogsy and BloggerIt's been a long, looooong, time since I've had the urge to blog.<br /><br />And today, with that urge returning I find that my favourite, most bestest blogging app ever is long gone. No longer available, no longer supported.<br /><br />Goodbye Blogsy. Loved you long time.<br /><a name='more'></a><br />In my desperate search for a replacement I turned to the google app, Blogger. But nooooo!!!! Google has dropped Blogger like a stone too and left all of us ipad bloggers high and dry with minimal representation in the app store!<br /><br />So now I am trialling BlogPress. A $5 aud purchase that comes with highly mixed reviews. Who knows - this may be the push that sees me swap blogging platforms entirely. <br /><br />Any recommendations for mobile blog editors would be much appreciated!<br /><br />One of the first things I noticed about BlogPress is the minimalist presentation (it's not WYSIWYG and there are very few menus or options) and a lack of basic functionality. For example I have yet to find a way to apply any justification to my text.<br /><br />On one hand this makes it a breeze to use but on the other hand it's a pain in the butt because you have to upload your blog and view the result in a browser if you want to know how it looks.<br /><br />Meanwhile I shall pop in a photo and a couple of html tags to test out how well this new app does in publishing and continue my search for a more functional editor.<br /><br />Be safe & free until the next time xxx<br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jqOIRmZsWnE/WHGJptf36HI/AAAAAAAABak/ZRA4zMas55c/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jqOIRmZsWnE/WHGJptf36HI/AAAAAAAABak/ZRA4zMas55c/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='280' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Nelly Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18439077373278109660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964858904859843847.post-28064059602905189862016-05-15T14:06:00.001+10:002016-05-15T18:25:15.167+10:002016 Swap N Hop Reveal<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Welcome to the highly anticipated 2nd Annual Swap 'n' Hop reveal!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IHGpE_9bXFk/Vzf1Oq57BrI/AAAAAAAABWc/XrUda7o7pHk/s479/Photo%25252020160515140401942.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IHGpE_9bXFk/Vzf1Oq57BrI/AAAAAAAABWc/XrUda7o7pHk/s479/Photo%25252020160515140401942.jpg" id="blogsy-1463285175863.7922" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="300" height="479"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a name='more'></a><p> I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed this swap.</p><p>Our hostess (Linda Anderson of <a href="http://fromthebeadboard.blogspot.com/" target="_blank" title="">www.fromthebeadboard.blogspot.com</a>) and her helpers have been tireless in creating a friendly and fun environment and I would like to thank them profusely for all of their hard work.</p><p>And I have a fantastic partner, Rebecca White of <a href="http://morganafeycreations.121hub.com/" target="_self" title="">www.morganafeycreations.121hub.com</a>, who is talented, warm and a pleasure to get to know.</p><p> </p><p>There are lots of wonderful blogs and creations for you to experience so I shall limit my waffle and get right to the reveal!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div><p>This is the glorious stash of goodies my partner sent me. Kit-A-Month - January<p style="text-align: left;">It's been a tough couple of years so to give myself something regular to look forward to I have joined a kit-a-month thingy being run by someone who makes me smile - Jo at Cranberry beads (<a href="http://www.cranberry.net.au" target="_blank" title="">www.cranberry.net.au</a>). </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a The blog hop where we reluctantly dismantle a retired piece of jewellery made by Jeannie and (hopefully) make something new and exciting from it.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Ooh! A rather stylish and modern necklace with jade, brass and one of Jeannie's vibrant swoosh pendants. Since they are very different colours I, very reluctantly, made the decision that I would re-colour both of them so that they matched. <p style="text-align: center;"> Welcome to the ATTS 6 reveal, hosted by the wonderfully creative duo from <a href="http://theresestreasures59.blogspot.com.au" target="_blank" title="">Therese's Treasures</a> and <a href="http://www.onekisscreations.blogspot.com.au" target="_blank" title="">One Kiss Creations</a>.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fwzHxRjVa4Y/VKp8yz8eh7I/AAAAAAAABLg/gsIEMydZGi0/s505/Photo%25252020150105230001189.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://www.onekisscreations.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-max=2014-11-12T00:30:00-05:00&max-results=7" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fwzHxRjVa4Y/VKp8yz8eh7I/AAAAAAAABLg/gsIEMydZGi0/s500/Photo%25252020150105230001189.jpg" id="blogsy-1420529362803.2708" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="463" alt=""></a>
</div>
<a name='more'></a><p style="text-align: center;"><em>(I'm writing this early and scheduling it to post on the appropriate day because I'll be crunched up uncomfortably on the second leg of a VERY long haul flight on the reveal day so I won't be able to have a look at any of the other blogs until I find an internet cafe.)</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: start;">For this hop we were challenged to create something from a <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">graphed chart, word chart, or picture chart using peyote, square, RAW, or brick stitches.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I got a little over ambitious with my project and decided to create my own chart, by hand, from a picture. This is the picture I chose :</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-KPvJYOFN9x4/VKp87FmvaHI/AAAAAAAABLo/LnSTnHe0fZs/s1803/Photo%25252020150105230001398.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-KPvJYOFN9x4/VKp87FmvaHI/AAAAAAAABLo/LnSTnHe0fZs/s500/Photo%25252020150105230001398.jpg" id="blogsy-1420529362831.1125" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">It's a bit fuzzy and I can't remember where it came from (I really should do a reverse image search so I can credit the photographer) but what a pretty face this little fox has.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I downloaded a blank 2-drop peyote chart from firemountain gems (you can find it <a href="http://www.firemountaingems.com/encyclobeadia/beading_resources.asp?docid=9201" target="_blank" title="">here</a>) and meticulously coloured each bead until I was happy. This is my completed chart :</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cDRQjQ4COgc/VKp9EhhazNI/AAAAAAAABLw/gkHtF97G_FY/s1527/Photo%25252020150105230001637.jpg" target="_blank" style="line-height: 1.3em; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cDRQjQ4COgc/VKp9EhhazNI/AAAAAAAABLw/gkHtF97G_FY/s500/Photo%25252020150105230001637.jpg" id="blogsy-1420529362832.7263" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">You are most welcome to use this chart for your own beading creations but please don't copy or publish the chart in any shape or form, changed or otherwise.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">(NB There's only supposed to be 7 basic colours; green, black, orange, yellow, white, brown and red, but because I did it over a few nights I occasionally forgot which particular shade of a colour I was using.)</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I realise that there are applications and software out there that could have automatically done this for me but I wanted to work from grass roots just to see if I could. Only problem was that it took me so long to create the chart that I needed a break from looking at the flippin' thing!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: center;">One day I'll be able to look at foxy again but meanwhile my fingers were itching to actually get to beading, so I bit the bullet and used a chart (<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/95190584/brick-stitch-fire-birdphoenix-seed?ref=shop_home_active_18" target="_blank" title="">this one)</a> from my favourite chart-lady on etsy (<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/wolfdendezigns38" target="_blank" title="">wolfdendezigns</a>).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><font size="6">Tada!</font></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Rm15Q18VaXw/VKp9QYATyQI/AAAAAAAABL4/BiFisDXOwO0/s2048/Photo%25252020150105230002028.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Rm15Q18VaXw/VKp9QYATyQI/AAAAAAAABL4/BiFisDXOwO0/s500/Photo%25252020150105230002028.jpg" id="blogsy-1420529362799.5356" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="500" alt=""></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">I know! Complete anti-climax (giggle)!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">These little phoenix (what will be) earrings took me seemingly forever - brick stitch is my nemesis and I either avoid it completely or convert it to peyote - so I am very happy that I actually finished them without throwing a complete tantrum. (And there were a few tanties and some interesting language along the way when I was working on my foxy chart).</p>

<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> This wonderful blog hop is hosted by the multi-talented <a href="https://jkd-studio.zibbet.com" target="_blank" title="">Jeannie K Dukic</a>, who generously sends each participant a piece of her handmade jewellery, an item that Jeannie is not quite happy with, and we are tasked to give it a complete make-over.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Be sure to pop on over to Jeannie's <a href="https://jkd-studio.zibbet.com" target="_blank" title="">store</a> to have a gander at her beautiful handmade components and lots of other lovely goodies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's the beautiful earring and necklace set I was sent.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-57xORPWOEwI/VEDjT0VeJBI/AAAAAAAABJU/1CFH0JQR_Pg/s1912/Photo%25252020141017203647.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-57xORPWOEwI/VEDjT0VeJBI/AAAAAAAABJU/1CFH0JQR_Pg/s500/Photo%25252020141017203647.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588278.1758" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="360"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A close up of the earrings so you can see how pretty the little handmade resin and dried flower components are. I am so in love with these!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4d9z56-XonY/VEDjX_xWEpI/AAAAAAAABJc/gBU7mjFfxKo/s1370/Photo%25252020141017203647.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4d9z56-XonY/VEDjX_xWEpI/AAAAAAAABJc/gBU7mjFfxKo/s500/Photo%25252020141017203647.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588245.977" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="500"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I had something in mind that I wanted to do with the flowers and I knew exactly what I was going to do with the vibrant fuscia quartz squares so I spent a long, LONG, time working with the other components.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I painstakingly shaped wire into individul links and carefully wire-wrapped the beads into each link. Then each link is connected to the next with 4 jump-rings and I hand-formed a clasp from wire before finally popping it into some LoS for a bit of antiquing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It <em>was</em> intended to be a fancy-shmancy bracelet. But it just did not want to play fair!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The jump rings reacted differently to the LoS and went a bizarre colour and the whole thing refused to hang right on the wrist. I held it up to the window with a sigh of despair and ....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-2Dz_MtsVxO4/VEDjc0iRrrI/AAAAAAAABJk/gIYFez_XRWA/s2048/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-2Dz_MtsVxO4/VEDjc0iRrrI/AAAAAAAABJk/gIYFez_XRWA/s500/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588245.0679" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="652"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> "Ooh!" I thought. "I like that!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I re-patina'd with inks to get a more even colour and added a couple of dangles to the bottom. My "forest vine" now dangles happily from my window.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I couldn't capture the whole thing in it's natural, dangly state but here it is all curled up for your inspection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bcnxLCG__N4/VEDjmEllMYI/AAAAAAAABJs/n7AlT585zYA/s1884/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bcnxLCG__N4/VEDjmEllMYI/AAAAAAAABJs/n7AlT585zYA/s500/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588303.5752" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="569"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Finally I could get to working on the little quartz squares. These were bouncing around yelling "earrings" and "retro" at me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One pair I coupled with some rock crystal spears and lovely, bright fine silver wire.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-th-UyNXB2ZA/VEDjtasnJSI/AAAAAAAABJ0/pu-OEyXrjR0/s1644/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-th-UyNXB2ZA/VEDjtasnJSI/AAAAAAAABJ0/pu-OEyXrjR0/s500/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588291.3213" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="500"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Very pleased with these.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And the second pair I used the silver wire to add a sixties feel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QF1NUOjVWIg/VEDj2rtt1RI/AAAAAAAABJ8/6_9vYBE1iDw/s1906/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QF1NUOjVWIg/VEDj2rtt1RI/AAAAAAAABJ8/6_9vYBE1iDw/s500/Photo%25252020141017203648.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588240.3977" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="574"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Now onto the piece I am most pleased with, even though it's not finished by a long shot!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I had big plans for those pretty little dried flower components and wanted to use my very limited supply of sterling silver wire. So rather than test my design with the expensive stuff I used parawire to build a prototype.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I spent so much time faffing around with my trucelent bracelent / window dangler that even though I was extremely pleased with how my prototype has turned out I haven't had enough time to make the "real" piece with the sterling wire yet.<br>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So as you look at the next pictures, try to imagine it in silver hanging from a lacy black crochet chocker without the coil spacers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-myA5UUrhcyk/VEDj8j3vcZI/AAAAAAAABKE/VM8bZ4K7dZY/s1549/Photo%25252020141017203649.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-myA5UUrhcyk/VEDj8j3vcZI/AAAAAAAABKE/VM8bZ4K7dZY/s500/Photo%25252020141017203649.jpg" id="blogsy-1413666588251.5444" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="571"></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These are some of my favourite makes of late.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thank you Jeannie, I have been having so much fun with this.</div>

We do NOT start having a very loud hissy fit about a broken elastic band.</p><p>2) Boobs belong to the person to which they are attached. They are NOT for sharing and, specifically, we do not walk up to Gran, grab one in each hand and yell "HONK HONK".<br></p><p>3) When Mum is driving, do not start a punch up with your sibling on the back seat. This may cause Mum to accidentally jam her foot down on the accelerator and swerve wildly across the road while she tries to break up the fight. Mum does not want Mr Police Man giving her a right royal telling off and a big fine again thank you.</p><p>4) No one needs to know that Mum has "just made a big smelly". Ever.</p><p>5) We do not ask why that lady has such a big bottom within earshot of the lady with the big bottom. Even if we happen to like big bottoms.</p><p>6) If we don't like our vitamin tablets we do not hide them in nooks and crannies all over the house. When it gets hot they will melt into an icky poo coloured mess that smells all yeasty and freaks everyone out trying to figure out what the heck that icky poo-brown stuff is. Just eat the blinking things.</p><p>7) That bag of chocolate and lollies hidden on the top shelf of the pantry is not breakfast.</p><p>8) Mum's tomatoes do not need "watering" every time you get out of the car. If you've hung on for the entire journey home you can hang on another 30 seconds until the front door is unlocked and you can "water" the toilet instead thank you very much.</p><p>9) Vegetables are not poison. We do not tell our teacher that Mum fed us poison last night. Peas will not kill you. Mum might if you don't eat them.</p><p> </p>Nelly Mayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18439077373278109660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7964858904859843847.post-46140856670989034142014-08-31T11:58:00.001+10:002014-08-31T13:05:02.046+10:00Focus On Life 2014 : Week 35<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>August's Focus : Outside</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Week 35 : Lazy Days of Summer</strong></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Zie1GzEHVyk/VAKBPlpFK0I/AAAAAAAABII/7wwan-SlBPM/s2048/Photo%25252020140831115755.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Zie1GzEHVyk/VAKBPlpFK0I/AAAAAAAABII/7wwan-SlBPM/s500/Photo%25252020140831115755.jpg" id="blogsy-1409450309720.8022" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="381" alt=""></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Spring is in full swing in my neck of the woods.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Warm days, cold nights and cloud bursts encouraging little green shoots to emerge from the ground and blossoms to burst from bare branches. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Promises of a hot summer to come whilst the other half of the world is enjoying the heat of the summer slowly transitioning to the glorious riot of colour that Autumn brings.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I've been chasing restful, repleneshing sleep for a while now and have not been joining in with the focus on life group as much as I'd like, but a wee burst of energy saw me take my two little imps to the lakes for a bike ride yesterday.</p><p style="text-align: center;">It was a particularly glorious day and we were treated to a lake full of beautiful model boats. <p style="text-align: center;">One of the things I'd really like to change at home is the quantity of rubbish we create weekly.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VxpUcNsa77M/U-Asdy8oQrI/AAAAAAAABGo/1bvtIoQsc58/s460/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VxpUcNsa77M/U-Asdy8oQrI/AAAAAAAABGo/1bvtIoQsc58/s460/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426929.5676" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="460" height="276"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">Our two big offenders are plastic bottles (milk) and cans (my better half can't be without his fizzy). So I thought I'd have a little browse around the net and find some creative re-use of our rubbish starting with cans.<br></p>
<a name='more'></a><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">Here are my favourite finds in no paryicular order:</span><p style="text-align: center;"><br></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.memakingdo.com/2010/06/soda-can-hair-clip.html" target="_blank" title="http://www.memakingdo.com/2010/06/soda-can-hair-clip.html"></a></p>
<p>1) <a href="http://www.memakingdo.com/2010/06/soda-can-hair-clip.html" target="_blank" title="">http://www.memakingdo.com/2010/06/soda-can-hair-clip.html</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Get your kitchen scissors out and make decorations for hair accessories. This one can be adapted for brooches, earrings, pendants, keyrings etc. just watch your fingers on those sharp edges, I recommend a bit of sanding on the edges to avoid blood splurts.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-TK51naGkgtU/U-Asf1NycJI/AAAAAAAABGw/HNYUNDNzwL8/s320/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style=""></a><a href="http://www.memakingdo.com/2010/06/soda-can-hair-clip.html" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-TK51naGkgtU/U-Asf1NycJI/AAAAAAAABGw/HNYUNDNzwL8/s320/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426913.5535" class="alignnone" alt="" width="320" height="254"></a>
</div>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">2) <a href="http://thesecretyumiverse.wonderhowto.com/how-to/8-refreshing-ways-recycle-empty-soda-cans-into-cool-new-things-0147464/" target="_blank" title="">http://thesecretyumiverse.wonderhowto.com/how-to/8-refreshing-ways-recycle-empty-soda-cans-into-cool-new-things-0147464/</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">A bunch of interesting ideas here. My fave being the little camping stove.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Pbn1TU2zaA0/U-AsirTQ3fI/AAAAAAAABG4/Jro1UmwGDIU/s881/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style="line-height: 1.3em; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://thesecretyumiverse.wonderhowto.com/how-to/8-refreshing-ways-recycle-empty-soda-cans-into-cool-new-things-0147464/" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Pbn1TU2zaA0/U-AsirTQ3fI/AAAAAAAABG4/Jro1UmwGDIU/s500/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426978.7358" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="674"></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">3) <a href="http://spoonful.com/crafts/tin-can-knitting" target="_blank" title="">http://spoonful.com/crafts/tin-can-knitting</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This one uses food cans rather than drink cans but what a great idea!</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gfamF1iuVZs/U-AskSaWzrI/AAAAAAAABHA/4qIiQKYl6VI/s420/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://spoonful.com/crafts/tin-can-knitting" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gfamF1iuVZs/U-AskSaWzrI/AAAAAAAABHA/4qIiQKYl6VI/s420/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426899.5625" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="420" height="420"></a>
</div>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p>4) <a href="http://littlehouseinthesuburbs.com/2008/12/aluminum-can-ornaments.html" target="_blank" title="">http://littlehouseinthesuburbs.com/2008/12/aluminum-can-ornaments.html</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">A variation on the hair accesories, these beautiful leaves can be used for all sorts of things.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-37UE7BolUSU/U-AsmCa1X1I/AAAAAAAABHI/6odSIELMICw/s400/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-37UE7BolUSU/U-AsmCa1X1I/AAAAAAAABHI/6odSIELMICw/s400/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426939.5" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="400" height="300"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p>5) <a href="http://quidnunc.org/tab_belt.html" target="_blank" title="">http://quidnunc.org/tab_belt.html</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I've seen lots of creative jewellery pieces made from the tabs but this belt is my favourite.</p>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: center; clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O3CZuP5ZQV0/U-AsoJfkyPI/AAAAAAAABHQ/GNq0AwDpGQo/s400/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style=""></a><a href="http://quidnunc.org/tab_belt.html" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O3CZuP5ZQV0/U-AsoJfkyPI/AAAAAAAABHQ/GNq0AwDpGQo/s400/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426896.3967" class="alignnone" alt="" width="400" height="200"></a>
</div>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p>6) <a href="http://www.thegreenestdollar.com/2009/11/cool-at-home-project-soda-pop-can-bracelets/" target="_blank" title="">http://www.thegreenestdollar.com/2009/11/cool-at-home-project-soda-pop-can-bracelets/</a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This is something I've already experimented with before coming across this blog. I havent quite perfected it yet - how to deal with the sharp edges and how to stop the very soft metal from distorting when you're wearing it - but I think there's a lot of potential for funky bangles. I've used soda can bangles as a base for polymer clay to great effect and I'm currently experimenting with embossing the metal with my beloved big shot.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gVqx6VYXrCs/U-AsptAtvuI/AAAAAAAABHY/CJJ9rCFFrd8/s300/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://www.thegreenestdollar.com/2009/11/cool-at-home-project-soda-pop-can-bracelets/" target="_blank" title=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gVqx6VYXrCs/U-AsptAtvuI/AAAAAAAABHY/CJJ9rCFFrd8/s300/Photo%25252020140805105925.jpg" id="blogsy-1407200426926.6965" class="aligncenter" width="300" height="300" alt=""></a>
</div>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">There's lots more ideas out there but I <span style="line-height: 1.3em; text-align: center;">should be doing housework or at least get out of bed. I've got big problems sleeping at the moment (short version -nostrils too small) so it's a miracle I'm using this child-free time to give my blog some loving rather than snoozing!</span></p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Welcome to the Stinky Dog Beads Blog Hop hosted by <a href="http://lorelei1141.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/stinky-dog-beads-blog-challenge-and-hop.html" target="_blank" title="" style="line-height: 1.3em;">Lorelei</a>!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">A few weeks ago, Lorelei picked out a gorgeous selection of bits n bobs from <a href="http://www.stinkydogbeads.com/" target="_blank" title="">Stinky Dog Beads</a> and set the challenge for us to create gorgeousness with them.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-up5ul8P5ntM/U4kv8rXwvOI/AAAAAAAABD0/06INIvfYeDw/s733/Photo%25252020140531112654.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-up5ul8P5ntM/U4kv8rXwvOI/AAAAAAAABD0/06INIvfYeDw/s500/Photo%25252020140531112654.jpg" id="blogsy-1401499814251.4597" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="503"></a></div>

A quick search led me to <a href="http://www.zentangle.com" target="_blank" title="">www.zentangle.com</a> and the concept of tangling.</p><p style="text-align: center;">My two favourite crafts, beading and claying, require too much preparation, attention and equipment to whip out during those very brief down-times during the day so the idea of something creative and relaxing that only required paper and pen was very appealing.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pxEN0S_iJlU/U4BZYdtAUBI/AAAAAAAABDc/293Pavt0lYE/s1858/Photo%25252020140524183251.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pxEN0S_iJlU/U4BZYdtAUBI/AAAAAAAABDc/293Pavt0lYE/s500/Photo%25252020140524183251.jpg" id="blogsy-1400920699250.9834" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="642" alt=""></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Just over a week ago I borrowed a book from the library (One Zentangle a Day<span style="line-height: 1.3em;"> by Beckah Krahula) and 'borrowed' my better half's nice drawing pen. Instantly hooked.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">I can pop my pad and pen in my bag and take it anywhere.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">Anytime I can find a moment for a cuppa I can quickly whip out my tangles. If there's a 'crisis' (and there usually is) I don't have to extricate myself from a difficult stitch to go and sort out exactly who is touching whose toys or to kiss away that little hurt.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;">The perfect little de-stresser!</p><p> </p><br />

There is always an excuse - too tired, too busy, someone's sick etc. and while all of these things may be true (and often all at once) I am not so run off my feet that I can't fit in an hour of de-clutter a week.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">I've actually known for a long time what the main reason for my prevaricating is. It is this room:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-AanADwVdIVU/U3ViqOM-YWI/AAAAAAAABCQ/inBYLLVNQhM/s2048/Photo%25252020140516105754.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-AanADwVdIVU/U3ViqOM-YWI/AAAAAAAABCQ/inBYLLVNQhM/s500/Photo%25252020140516105754.jpg" id="blogsy-1400201986693.7878" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a><span style="line-height: 1.3em;"> </span></div><a name='more'></a><p style="text-align: center;">This is so filled with clutter that I get disheartened.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I get geared up and ready to go and then I stand at the entrance to this room and don't know where to start.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">I know that anything I try to remove, whether its broken, disliked or never used, has to be approved by five people before I can find a new home for it.</p><p style="text-align: center;">FIVE PEOPLE. My son, my daughter, my husband, his Mum and to a lesser extent, his Sister. It is beyond disheartening, it's thoroughly depressing.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">Every single tiny de-clutter I do is met with critisism. And despite my (very) thick skin and "like it or lump it" comebacks to these criticisms it makes it so much easier to find an excuse NOT to tidy.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">To add insult to injury my other half has started nagging me to "get-rid of" my craft stuff (which incidentally I can barely get to due to the mountains of clutter in the nightmare room).</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">Get rid of my craft stuff!?!?! That's fighting talk!</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">Out came the black sacks. NO-ONE gets to look inside. NO-ONE gets to comment. The response to ANY queries later down the track about where a particular item is will be "it's probably been tidied away" and no further explanation or justification will follow.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">I picked a corner:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7aZFTa-8vQQ/U3Viwl_Pr4I/AAAAAAAABCY/WVJRsYgDu80/s2048/Photo%25252020140516105754.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7aZFTa-8vQQ/U3Viwl_Pr4I/AAAAAAAABCY/WVJRsYgDu80/s500/Photo%25252020140516105754.jpg" id="blogsy-1400201986670.1094" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">I set a timer for 20 minutes.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I put broken things in one black sack.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I put donate things in a secong black sack.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I put 'keep' things in cupboards, not worrying about neat or tidy. Cupboards can be tidied by all of us later.</p><p style="text-align: center;">After the first 20 minutes:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-mC7v9Fhfxlo/U3Vi4Bumw9I/AAAAAAAABCg/qER4CYVlTl0/s2048/Photo%25252020140516105755.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-mC7v9Fhfxlo/U3Vi4Bumw9I/AAAAAAAABCg/qER4CYVlTl0/s500/Photo%25252020140516105755.jpg" id="blogsy-1400201986670.43" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">I had a cuppa, got my Zentangle stuff out and chilled for half an hour then set a second 20 minute timer.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tzubvGyu7VU/U3Vi-rROlxI/AAAAAAAABCo/GES37I_u7iA/s2048/Photo%25252020140516105755.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tzubvGyu7VU/U3Vi-rROlxI/AAAAAAAABCo/GES37I_u7iA/s500/Photo%25252020140516105755.jpg" id="blogsy-1400201986657.158" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">Looks like less of an improvement after my second session but there was a LOT of small fiddly stuff.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">One black sack straight in the bin. One black sack straight to charity. One black sack filled with things that would still get used if we knew where the rest of it was (my "bitsa" sack).</p><p style="text-align: center;">Once this room is finally clear we will hit the cupboards AS A FAMILY and then go through the "bitsa" sack. If those bits don't become a whole unit by the end then they WILL go.</p><p style="text-align: center;"> </p><p style="text-align: center;">Yes there was complaining, crying and yelling but I put my super-kevlar-thick skin on and responded "TOUGH TITTY".</p><p style="text-align: center;">Then I hid in a very hot bath for two hours.</p><p> </p><br />
