5th Do-Over Challenge Reveal!

Welcome to reveal day of Jeannie K's 5th Do-Over!

For this challenge, Jeannie sent each of us one of her pieces that she wasn't completely happy with. Our task was to redesign that piece and make something new and spangly from it.

My problem, was that I liked my piece from Jeannie so much that I was loath to fiddle with it! A beautiful long necklace of large shiny silver plate links (I would get steel core, very substantial and attracted to magnets) interspersed with clear glass nuggets. It sparkled in the sun and attracted lots of comments with it's simple beauty. Oh yes I took it for walks and shopping before that fateful day when I got my pliers out.

Here's the before piece as kindly modelled by a random passing ballerina :

I wanted to keep the simple, sparkly feel but have a shorter piece because my preference is to wear my necklaces up close to my neckline.

And this is how it turned out:

And some arty shots:

I had a link and a glass nugget left over so I made a pendant in the same style:

I must admit I'm not entirely happy, it looks a bit paper-clippy to me and I prefer the original. Having said that, I like the shape and the dangles so I will experiment more with different links and see if I can make it less paper-clippy!

Be sure to have a look at what everyone else has done, it's a great challenge and it's fascinating to see what people have come up with. Thanks Jeannie!

  1. "took it for walks and shopping." TOO FUNNY!
WOW Penny you modernized this piece beyond belief. It's remarkable. Wire work always gets me giddy and colored wire none the less. Thank you so much for participating and I hope you will join us for the next one.

p.s. the ballerina model is delightful

  2. I love your do-over! Many of us made our pieces longer, yours was made shorter. I do like the addition of color, and it does not look paper clippy to me!

  3. Beti said what I was going too! Love the addition of the red to that necklace it really makes the whole thing pop!

  4. Okay...I did NOT see that one coming. I looked at the original and tried to imagine what I'd do with it. I was thinking add some silver beads and stay with the monochrome look. And then BAM, I saw your take on it. Wow! What a difference some color makes! I would never have thought of doing that. Really cool!

  5. I do like the before also. Your pieces are amazing too. Well done!

  6. Love the addition of the wire components. The red was a good choice. Really nice design.

  7. You know even though it does have that paper clip feel to it.. It also has that artsy feel and I think it works great. In fact I love it. Great job.

  8. I really like the red wire with the clear crystals, and I don't think the designs look paper-clippy at all! I bet the first necklace hangs beautifully and would look great dressed up or down. Great job! :) P.S. Make sure to tell the passing ballerina that she did a great job of modeling the original necklace!

  9. The red links really make the designs pop. Great addition to the clear crystals/stones. :)

  10. I really like your redo pieces.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment :-)
