Focus On Life 2014 - Week 1

I love taking pictures, just love it. And last year I followed the series 'Focus on Life' photos with great interest, so this year I was very keen to join in.

'Focus on Life' is the brain child of Sally Russick of The Studio Sublime. Each week Sally provides prompts to inspire your photography. It's not too late to join in, click on any of the links above.

Week One : The Minimalist Photograph :

This week's prompt was to Capture an image using a single subject and my single subject is a snail snoozing on an old bit of wood at an abandoned railway in the Yarra Valley.

I'm really chuffed with how it came out, the colours were captured exactly as I saw them and didn't need tweaking and the little chappy stayed perfectly still while I snapped away. Not bad for a piccie taken with my humble phone! (I had a coffee accident with my camera, aaargh)!

This gorgeous little place enraptured my family with it's rotting floor boards and rusting trains and while i was snapping away happily my two little monkeys were playing 'rocket trains' (closely supervised by Dad of course).

The early evening light was perfect, giving it's summer warmth to everything.

And there were so many little details to capture:

The simple interest of rotting wood.

The beauty of long abandoned cobwebs.

The amazing colours of the invading moss.
A row of chairs patiently waiting.

The muted colours of lichen against the aging paint of the train.

Some wonderful memories were made that day.

Be sure to visit the other participants blogs to read their stories and come back next week!

  2. Love the snail! Had to check where you were from with all the lovely summer pictures! We just keep getting hit with blizzard after blizzard and the last 2 days were the coldest since we moved here 12 years ago! Welcome to the group... visiting blogs is a fun way to 'waste' Saturday morning!

  4. All your photos are great. I especially like the snail one, I think it ts the contrast of the wheel against the aging yellow wood that makes it special.

  5. At first glance, I thought that your snail picture looked like an oil painting. I had to take a second, closer look to realize that it was a photograph. Good job
