Focus On Life 2014 - Week 2

Week Two : A Silhouette.

Meet my little wasp that I snapped trying to escape the confines of a cafe as my kids and I supped on ice cold shakes to cool down the unrelenting heat of tuesday afternoon. Whilst the northern hemisphere is suffering snow storms and flooding we are on high alert for fires. One extreme to the other.

The little wasp made such a beautiful silhouette that I wanted to drown out the rest of the picture so he became the one and only focal point. So I had a lot of fun exploring the functionality of various image manipulation programs and played with the picture until Mr Wasp really popped out.

Here's the progression of Mr Wasp starting with the original, unfiddled-with image :

Popped it into Camera+ (Ipad) and straightened and cropped it using the adjust tool:

Took the dirty marks off the window with PixlrExpress+ spot tool - how cool is this tool and how much better does the picture look!

Fiddled around with effects until I felt I had a nice grainy colour and texture (still in PixlrExpress+):
Fiddled some more ....

And then popped on the fancy pants torn border that you see in the very top image.
What do you think? Do you think i should have left the image untouched? Or maybe stopped at the first black and white image?
You know it's just occurred to me that I never caught Mr Wasp and set him free. Poor wee creature. Let this be an homage to his little life.
Please be sure to visit the other participants blogs, lots of beautiful pictures to be seen.

  5. Yucky subject but I think I like the top picture the best! and the only good wasp is a dead wasp! Unlike bees I don't think wasps are in the least bit useful!

  7. I love hearing how you've edited the photo, but I'm sorry, he scares me! I just do like buzzy, stingy, flying things...

  10. Mr. Wasp probably would have just stung someone so perhaps it was his fate to be entrapped. Good job with the effects
