De-Clutter 2014 - Week 18

It has been weeks since I've truly been able to kick back and take stock. I love my family more than anything in existence but I am human and I need a break from being a Mum and wife or I go slightly loopy-la-la.

My better-half was home nursing a cold yesterday and my littlest-one was over tired from swimming lessons so I left them both huddled in a blanket with hot drinks, chicken sandwiches and trashy TV and attempted to tackle the "Kitchen Cupboard of Horridness".

Realising I would only have moments before cries of "MUM - I'm bored" and "PEN - can you just get me blabla?" boomed from the sofa I hit the "Shelf of Tormented Plastic Ware" in a blur of flying arms and filled a sack with anything missing a lid, any lid missing a container, anything broken or overly icky and anything that has not been used in living memory.

I ran past the sofa with my black sack of loot as fast as I could and countered cries of "You're not getting rid of blabla are you?" with "it's broken, it goes" and then soothed my pair of fretful hoarders with a bit of lemon cake to make it all better.

Now everything has a lid and can be retrieved with ease. Ah bliss!
Just makes you feel good looking at all that neat plastic doesn't it?

Now today I have 3 brief hours of empty nest. The rest of the lemon cake, neatly nestled in an easily retrieved piece of plasticware, is ALL MINE!
And I am relaxing looking out at my beautiful, beatiful view across the valley.

Ahhh! Time to kick back & stare at last.

Leisure
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

  1. Plastic ware is the worst thing to keep neat in the cupboard, and then when I need something, I have thrash around trying to find the lid. I just looked in the cupboard where I keep my plastic containers. Ugh! I guess I should try to sort through it this weekend. I'm inspired by how neat and tidy yours looks. *smile*

  2. That looks much better!. I'm still sorting paperwork and have loads to be shredded and taken to the skip - it's taking ages.

  3. Good job. My plastic containers aren't even all on one shelf. I tend to stick them where ever they will fit at the time, without falling out of the cupboard the next time I open the door. Of course, you know I'm not going to have to add this chore to my growing list!
