De-Clutter 2014 - Week 1

The rather wonderful Bonnie of Jasper's Gems suggested a year long de-clutter project for 2014 with weekly progress reports on our blogs.

I did have a wee bash at a de-clutter last year - which didn't get much beyond clearing out two drawers. Not very successful!

But with the added encouragement of Bonnie, and with the promise of 3 child-free mornings a week when my youngest starts kinder, I fully intend to kick clutter's botty this year.

These are the four main areas of utter chaos that need tackling, clockwise from top left they are; the table, the family room, the wee bit by the front door and the upstairs cupboard:

Yep, I know. Hoarder's paradise. Sigh! What with the natural desire of small children to hold on to every tiny object that passes through their hands I also have a hubby who finds it impossible to let go.

And since it runs in hubby's family we have inherited bags upon bags upon bags of stuff that once belonged to various other members of his clan dating back 40 years or more. A considerable amount of which is broken and been awaiting repair for a couple of decades. <shudder>

Much to everyone's horror I emptied eldest monkey's bedroom of ancient broken toys and packed up a couple of sacks of (unbroken) baby toys for re-homing just before Christmas.

Now I have to take some responsibility for the increasing piles of 'stuff' since I came from a very thrifty family and have a tendency to hold on to stuff that can be used to makether stuff with. So I have bags of ripped clothes waiting to be turned into clothes for kids or dolls and oodles of empty boxes, jars and the like. To my chagrin this will have to be tackled too :-(

Hubby goes back to work next week so my task begins in earnest then.

Here's looking forward to a simpler, cleaner, clutter-free way of life in 2014 and if you are looking to do the same and want a bit of encouragement then please join us, blog about it and add your link via the little doohickey below:

  1. I have a tendency to hold onto things also, so I totally understand. That is, in part, how I ended up with so much stuff! Not to worry, we will work away on it together this year.

  2. Oh, I know all about the added stuff that comes from the homes deceased family members! I've already pin pointed 3 areas to work on first though. I don't want to get overwhelmed, so I'll start with those. I'll be posting a blog this week on my intentions.

  3. Slow and steady wins the race! Way to go on identifying what is is you want to work on first.
